Will people buy that instead of the cheaper Wii version, given that they already have the console? |
These are far stronger than previous arguments. They're both valid questions, worthy of investigation.
On point 1, it's true - sales of Just Dance 4 will depend on how well the Wii U does. But what you must remember is that the availability of Just Dance 4 for Wii U with an exclusive mode will make the Wii U look better to the sort of person who would consider buying Just Dance 4. And as I noted, the Wii U and Just Dance 4 may actually be benefited by a retail-level bundle. It's a question that we won't know the answer to for at least another 6 months, likely not for another year.
On point 2, the simple question is this - will Just Dance 4 for Wii U be significantly more expensive than the Wii version? We don't know. We don't yet know the pricing that is expected for Wii U titles, and we don't know if Ubisoft would follow increased prices in this context. It's entirely possible that, seeing the potential for establishment of a strong base for the franchise on the Wii U at launch, Ubisoft would intentionally price the Wii U version lower than it otherwise would have been.
Interestingly, Amazon.com has the Wii, PS3, and 360 versions of Just Dance 4 listed for $40 each... but the Wii U version at $50. It's probably speculation, though - I can't see the Wii U version being priced higher than the PS3/360 versions.
The real key, though, is that Just Dance 4 has the potential to move Wii U hardware in the same way that the franchise has been able to move Wii hardware. But it's all speculation, at this point. All I'm saying is, don't count it out, just yet.
