While people talk about 360 being supply constrained its first year remember that PS3 wasnt available in Europe the whole year. Also remember that PS3 wasn't going up against 360s first year. It went up against it's second year and 360 won out. Now it's 3rd year vs. 2nd and PS3 seems to be gaining some ground.

As for Hardware and software, I had an NES break on me which sucked. I also had a PS2 break on me. I guess reliability is a big issue for me because I switched to Playstation when my NES broke and then switched to Xbox when my PS2 broke. When my 360 broke the software I had and the software that was coming was too good to not get it repaired. I think the games are really what it's all about.

The point is more money is better. They aren't just selling consoles, accessories and software. They are making money. Sony used to have Microsoft beat until they started to take losses. Right now they are both losing and Nintendo is winning. The money isn't really in the hardware. Can you make money on hardware? of course but not the kind you make on software. So ultimately its about software. you are selling these systems so that other people will give you money to put games on them. Right now PS3 is outselling 360 worldwide by 10-20k a week but 360 still leads software and thats where the money is. Ultimately the person best at this game is Nintendo because even when they sell the least they still make money. This is because they don't sell at a loss. The more consoles sold for them means an immediate increase in cash, then down the line more software will sell which means more cash. The N64 and the Gamecube were both profitable. I don't know how much Nintendo made but I do know that for all the systems sold by Sony they didn't make as much as most people think. Ultimately you realize that the best console is the one that makes money all the time. That means Nintendo wins.

Each system has different things going for it and thats why it's been a tight race.

PS3 has the brand name, the reliability and the value. You get a lot for your money and its a name you recognize.

Wii has the price, the hype and the reliability. I ultimately think that both price and hype are most important and thats why Wii is winning. Especially in America.

360 has the software, its gaining brand name and has ok value. In America the 360 brandname is really coming on strong. The value right now isn't too bad considering it's just a little more than a wii but you can do more with it.

Unfortunately it doesn't seem to matter because Nintendo will always be the best console because it will always make money.
