Other touch devices don't have buttons/sticks, i wouldn't even call it a touch device, more like a controler with screen. It shouldn't be too complicated to quickly tapp anywhere on the screen while holding the gamepad, but everything more would make the button/stick/touch layout look unhandy. They are not trying to catch the tablet audience, or wanna the dev to drop support for other smartphones or consoles, that would be utter utopia. Just some 3rd party games to get high user base in both markets, casual/hardcore, then bamm, 10-30million sellers from Ninty, and they will never look back to the others. The Vita is priced too high obv; 6-8 fingers, wtf? imo, that's nonsense from an economical point of view. You are living in 2012, perhaps, and perhaps you were living in 2006 in 2006, but half of the rest of the world was living in 2001/2002 between 2006 and 2009. And who knows when you are living in 2013/2014? Most consumers will be fine living in the past, these good ol days with economic stability and you know middle class. Ah, forget it. As a gamer, i have to admit that i understand your point of view. |
ZombiU showed us gameplay where you didn't focus on using the sticks and buttons, but rather just holding the screen up and using it + the touch controls. Now why is it so difficult to add multitouch? For something like that it would add much more possibilities. I think it is a great opportunity lost in that regard.
Sometimes you may need to take your hands off the buttons and use the screen to solve puzzles. Once again, by having only single touch it limits what you can do in this regard. PInching, zooming, dragging two points together, covering multiple holes to prevent toxic gases from escaping, etc... the options are out there and there are many. However, now this is unfortunately not going to happen.
2012, 36M iPhones sold last quarter, 9M Galazy S3 android preordered, hundred and hundreds of millions of multitouch controlled smart devices all over the world, whether it be US, Europe, Japan, China, you name it. You say maybe some are living in 2006. Well, WiiU launched end of 2012 and multitouch has been there mainstream since 2007 with the iPhone, so yes, they are way behind.
Vita is too overpriced? Could be, but we need to see some software first. For all we know it might not be, especially if PSSuite gets off the ground and those $.99 apps from Android find their way over. Even then, yes, it could be overpriced. Doesn't look like it though when the WiiU "non-tablet" is estimated to retail at almost $130. Also, 6 touches may seem like overkill, but think back to my example of covering holes to block gas. I did this on Escape Plan with the Vita and was easily able to cover 5 holes and make my character move. So, just because it seems like a lot for Nintendo doesn't mean that for the rest of us who are used to multitouch. Even my phone does more than dual touch and I got it early 2010.
As for your last sentence. That is exactly why is bugs me. As a gamer I can see that this looks like a situation where you take some steps forward but then take steps back. No doubt, at the least, this should have had multitouch.
iPhone = Great gaming device. Don't agree? Who cares, because you're wrong.
