Quite curious why this wasn't shown at Nintendo's conference, but this is good news for WiiU.

massive conspicuous absence imo.  i thought for sure the fact it wasn't shown proved it wasn't coming (this year at least).  if it is coming nintendo is massively stupid to not show this title off at E3.

Consider this as a strategy by Nintendo:

Nintendo was trying to make it clear the big differential it has between itself and Microsoft and Sony.  It is trying to show why the second screen makes it the place for the best way to play games, including third-party.  It was focusing on that.  That was the focus at E3.  It did some third-party stuff, to show it had support, but it didn't announce price, release date, what would come with it. In light of this logic, it makes sense they hold back.

Now, one would expect before the release later this year, it is going to come out with the full information, and if you end up dropping that Black Ops 2, Madden, etc... will be on it, you have something.  You clear up all doubts regarding the system.  In other words, show off what differentiates, come in lower key, have opposition show their cards, then come in and close on a strong note going into the holiday seasons.  It makes sense to me.

Nintendo HAVING third-party for it, all the major third-party releases, is better than announcing it at E3. Sounds smart to me actually.  And, considering the lack of Megaton at E3, including any price cuts, and major annoucements, it seems like all the three console makers played E3 on the weak side.

Edit: Another thing.  If you announce at E3 Black Ops 2 was available for the system, and I doubt Activision ends up doing a separate release date for WiiU version, you give hints to when the WiiU would appear.  Actually, it seems to make sense that is why no Black Ops 2 announcement.  WiiU likely comes out before Black Ops 2 release window, so you don't announce it for it, so you don't hint when WiiU will be out.
