Gilgamesh said: You can't compare PSOne and PS2 numbers for the Wii and WiiU and you DEFINITELY can't post numbers about the DS and 3DS numbers, that makes no sense. They don't compare to the Wii at all, when the 3DS came out the DS was still selling very strong, the Wii is far from selling strong right now, as soon as Wii U get's an official release date expect Wii sales to get cut in half, and when the WiiU releases expect sales to be barely alive. |
Again, you can't just ignore it entirely, because the Wii is being affected by its current price. Other "winning" systems had already dropped to $99 by this point in their lives, except the PS2, which was at $129. The Wii is still at $149. A price drop to $99 is likely to produce a significant boost to Wii sales in the short term, and then holiday sales of the system are likely to be strong as those whose interest the Wii U captures, but who can't afford a Wii U, will turn to the Wii as a cheap alternative.
Comparisons are fair enough. Only someone who is already biased against a system will assume that that system is already in its death throes, in this context. That reaching 100 million by end of the year isn't a given is a result of its weakness... but it can still manage it.
