It's amusing hearing most of you expressing your dislike of 3D.
Do you like having sound? Duh
Do you like having color? Duh
Do you like having 3D? Duh, just maybe not yet.
Talking in film couldn't catch on until the technology was there. If the audio was scratchy and out right painful a few enthusiasts would love it but most would rebel.
Color film first started with painting every frame by hand. Again no one except enthusiasts saw this as more than a gimmick until color cameras came around.
Now with 3D the jump is the largest one yet. Every few years for a variety of reasons it keeps coming back with new technology in a better form. Right now it is finally maturing from a tech demo to a valuable addition. In less than ten years glasses free light field displays will reach the market and 3D will become the norm. Pretty soon after that we'll see smell tv try to make a return. That will fail instantly (again) as the whole cycle starts over again.
OT: This is smart of Sony. It's better to keep the burner on low until next generation when hardware on both sides can better handle it.
