Yeah, that's a big personal dilemma. I need a new big screen TV for my living room but I just don't know how to take 3D into the equation (wait for glasses-free 3D or not, get a TV with HDMI that supports 1080p 3D gaming or not or ignore the 3D specs entirely).

And from a gaming perspective. How should I view it I think. Like you have said, 3D doesn't add anything to the experience in a deeper sense. With my 3DS I'm thinking the 3D effect is cool and all but my gaming experience is no worse without it. At least that's what I'm leaning towards now (now that my eyes hurt after a while, dammit).

A general observation of the HD consoles' 3D is that framerate problems occur more frequently and that colors seem to be darker than without 3D. In that sense 3D right now is a visual effect with tradeoffs and you would have to buy a 3D TV based on the expectation that Sony's and Microsoft's next consoles get it right, provided it's even a feature they care about in the first place.

Prices of TVs should make your decision a bit easier. The only question you have to ask yourself is if 3D is worth the price of admission. It sounds like your biggest concern is that you might be missing out on something if you don't go 3D. But if 3D doesn't really impress you, then why pay for it?

Well, I don't have any experience with 3D gaming other than the 3DS. So yes, I'm afraid I will be missing out on something (including the few big blockbuster movies that are in 3D). I do not like darker colors though. I'm a high brightness, low contrast guy.
