Things working for Nintendo

  • The Last of Us probably 2013
  • God of War Ascension - March 2013
  • Beyond Two Souls probably 2013
  • Bioshock Infinite 2013
  • Tomb Raider 2013
  • Watch Dogs 2013 or later
  • The Last Guardian 2013 or later or never
  • Grand Theft Auto V 2013 or later
  • See the trend regarding most anticipated games? and Nintendo launches Wii U holiday season of 2012
  • Assassin's Creed III will release 2012 and also be available on Wii U
  • Batman Arkham City on Wii U had a strong showing at E3 and many Nintendo fans will finally try it because they have been too stupid to try it already on X360 or PS3
  • ZombiU might be the surprise hit of the Wii U launch lineup selling million+ copies
  • Rayman Legends is a 2012 release that has impressed everybody more than anything from Nintendo itself
  • Lego City Undercover is probably 2012 and has potential to do as good as GTA at the casual scale (i.e. it could be huge)
  • EA Sports games will be present and available for Wii U

Things working against Nintendo

  • In this economy, people are price sensitive
  • Pikmin 3 has not been confirmed for 2012 and maybe a March 2013 title instead
  • Nintendo Land did not impress much and is largely unfinished as a game. The hub world is terrible even if the mini-games may have some gems.
  • Halo 4 will release 2012 and take up significant mind share from interested gamers
  • Call of Duty Black Ops 2 will release in 2012 and take up significant mind share from interested gamers

Ultimately games compete with each other for time... the core gamers find some way to fund their hobby but time is the hardest thing to allocate and since most of the compelling software on other systems is going to be 2013, enough people will give Wii U a shot in 2012 and once they do... "Playing is believing"

So all things considered, there are more things in favor than against.
