By the time the 720 Xbox releases, Nintendo might already be releasing a new console as well. Microsoft confirmed they weren't releasing a next generation console for a long, long time. Also, in order to beat the Wii U or their own console (360, PS3) any time soon, they'll have to up the prices for their consoles all over again. PS3 can't afford a new console much stronger than PS3/Wii U, it would go back to $500. They're forced to play the waiting game before they can release new consoles without them costing too much.
