It's not that they hate it, it's just they know this is a battle they can't win.
Besides, with the Wii U re-reveal, they had a lot of information to get out there. There was simply no time for 3DS.
Anyway, like you said the 3DS conference only showed old games which means it was a good choice for Nintendo so save the main event for the Wii U only.
