"Hey kids, do you want to play with an iPad while sitting on a Wii Fit board while your friends waggle around with Wiimotes and your Xbox loving older bro plays along with a controller that will make him feel right at home?" That doesn't sound like red ocean thinking to you? The Wii was about making gaming simpler and more accessible. The Wii U's philosophy is just "more cowbell".

Do you seriously think that SmartGlass would of been introduced if Nintendo didn't go second screen with the WiiU?  

The reality is WIiU caused Microsoft and Sony to also add a second screen interface to their systems.
