Tastewise, the market for Europe and US go together better than Japan and Europe except for soccer games. So if you have a quirky Japan game you'd want to look at only Japan. Then you'd see this.
Marketshare Lifetodate Most Recent Sales
Wii 67.8% 66.3%
PS3 24.6% 29.9%
Xbox360 7.6% 3.7%
If you had an American/Europe game, such as a WRPG, Racing game, or FPS, you'd look at America and Europe to project sales and you'd see this.
Marketshare Lifetodate Most recent Sales
Wii 39.4% 53.3%
Xbox360 40.9% 24.3%
PS3 19.6% 22.4%
So I stand firm to my belief that the only people that care if PS3 outsells xbox360 excluding America are Sony fanboys. PS3 has certainly increased it's marketshare, but it's far from clearing any hurdle. Especially, most developers say that it becomes less of a risk when a console sells at least 5 M in Japan, 5 M in others, and 10 M in America. There is very little chance for the PS3 of hitting those Japan/America targets by the end of 2008, maybe even by the end of 2009. It should hit the europe target in a couple of months. The wii will hit the America 10 M in a couple of months, and Xbox 360 will never hit 5 M in Japan which is why it is dead in the water in Japan and most Japanese developers don't take it seriously.
