| Ail said: I think many people are making assumptions that the current market doesn't support. First many posters in this thread are assuming that those buying Wii this generation are those that bought PS2 the last generation whereas everything seems to be pointing out to new consumers buying consoles this generation that didn't the last one. So the fact that the Wii is selling enormous amounts does not necessary mean that the sales of XBox360 and PS3 sales will be that much lower because of it. Secondly I believe you will have a lot more owners of two consoles this generation than during the previous generation. The reason being that a lot of popular franchises of PS2 or Xbox won't necessary move over to Wii and the players that liked them the previous generation will want to keep playing them and the price point of the Wii allows for a lot of consumers to be able to afford 2 consoles within the next 4 years...(when many compare the Price of Wii now to the price of PS2 8 years ago they forget inflation, the Wii is actually a lot cheaper than the PS2 was when it started, give it a couple years and a Wii price drop and it will be really a mass market item and buying one won't be at the expense of the others consoles). So in the end yeah I believe the Wii will surpass the PS2, but I believe both the PS3 and Xbox360 will pass 50 millions too...

No, those so called popular franchises on the PS2, only sold 15 million tops, there were more than 90 million PS2's that didn't play those games, most of those gamers are shifting over to Wii or will in the future, remember most consoles are sold for less than $199, i'm afraid you have misjudged the market, PS3 and 360 will not reach 50 million as most have no interest in the games coming to those systems, most want games that we would consider shovelware
Predictions:Sales of Wii Fit will surpass the combined sales of the Grand Theft Auto franchiseLifetime sales of Wii will surpass the combined sales of the entire Playstation family of consoles by 12/31/2015 Wii hardware sales will surpass the total hardware sales of the PS2 by 12/31/2010 Wii will have 50% marketshare or more by the end of 2008 (I was wrong!! It was a little over 48% only)Wii will surpass 45 Million in lifetime sales by the end of 2008 (I was wrong!! Nintendo Financials showed it fell slightly short of 45 million shipped by end of 2008)Wii will surpass 80 Million in lifetime sales by the end of 2009 (I was wrong!! Wii didn't even get to 70 Million)
