Although I'm not a big fan of the modern Bond movies, GoldenEye is certainly the exception. And no, I'm not just saying that because of the awesome Nintendo 64 game, I really do like this movie.

After the darker approach of Licence To Kill was rejected by the market, the producers decided to go back to the formula of the Moore/Connery Bonds, with a modern twist. The results were impressive. GoldenEye took the series to new box-office heights, and proved to the world that Bond was back.

The title song is pretty good, and reminiscent of the Shirley Bassey Bond songs. The main soundtrack is kind of a mixed bag, but as I mentioned in The Living Daylights review, the Bond music was never quite the same after John Barry left. I really love the characters in this movie. They just have so much personality and unique little qualities that keep them from being bland and boring. The action scenes are good too. I think Brosnan does a pretty good job in his first Bond outing. For me, his approach to Bond is a combination of Connery and Moore. I like how Brosnan still has that Remington Steele look in this. I don't know, I just think it suits him. Some people complain that he's too skinny or that they don't like his hairstyle, but whatever.

Overall, GoldenEye is a good and balanced Bond movie. I think it's the best of the modern Bond movies, and it's the last really good one in the series, for me at least.
