I can relate. My family use to have a cat for years, and one day we brought it to the vet to get it's worm shots or something and you had to leave him there over night.The next day we got a call from them saying he had leukemia and they just put him down. There was no signs of him being sick or anything, and turns out he could of actually lived for another couple years, there was no rush to put him down, I was so pissed.
My guess is my parents just said to put him down cause they didn't want to spend a huge amount of money to keep him alive for a couple years :(
