Can't say I know too much about the strengths for Hitler having an ally in Japan, but I don't doubt he would have sought Asia at some point if he succeeded in Europe and the USA wasn't involved.

Both had the same enemies, namely Great Britain and (despite the nonagression treaties that BOTH countries had with them) the Soviet Union. Simply fighting the same country at the same time, even if they were coordinated in no other way, worked to their advantage.
