MS will most likely profit from the 360 when all is said and done, but thanks to the RROD fiasco and original XBOX cost I don't think they will be profitable overall for sometime. However, the MS division where the 360 was was never solely the 360, so many things have to be factored when looking at their overall profit on the xbox/360. It's only clear that the original XBox was a pure loss to get into the gaming industry, and that the 360 may or may not turn a overall profit (though I believe they will) when all is said and done.
Hopefully they are smart enough to break even or take very small losses when the 720 is out. No reason to lose money on the next round of consoles.
Looking at that chart Nintendo is the only company to have real success in the gaming industry, in terms of profit. The 3DS is the only reason they will be in the red for a year but overall they will profit again.
It's just that simple.
