Trucks, I can't remember some bits in FFIX for the life of me. Man, it's been so long. Is the area with the doors Alexandria (where there's a huge White Castle)? If the airship then crashes and then you land in the forest, it might be really early in the game.
If that's true, then the game has alot to offer as you go forward. But I may be totally lost in where you are.
