You know when you don't know what you are talking about you probably shouldn't give advice.
i5 is Intel's designation for midrange CPUs, i7 is high end/enthusiest CPUs and i3 is low end.
Most games today are not CPU limited and a quad core i5 is more than enough for any game today really. The i5 2500k will be fine for anything today and overclocks well if you want the lower power draw of Ivy Bridge go for the i5 3570K they are both Socket 1155. Anything past that and you are looking at a lot more money for marginal performance increases.
