As soon as I started doubting my faith.

Suddenly, all the homophobic stuff (don't worry, it's nothing all too serious) that used to make sense became pure ignorance. Not a pleasant realization, but I'm glad it happened. And honestly I still haven't fully recovered.

My parents are great, but not perfect/gods.

You were religious at some point?

Anyways, never really put the one parent that was around in such a limelight view.

Oh yeah, first sixteen years of my life.

What does that last part mean?

Wow, did not expect that of you buddy. But that's a topic to discuss another day.

Means my dad left when I was two, so I can't actually remember ever having seen him, so he can go jump off a building as far as I care. And mom is nice and all, but I've never regarded her or anyone else as being "above all".
