No, these games are supposed to be glorious, so adding trash is a preposterous idea. Achievements are already bad enough, but achievements that require you to play badly are almost worse than EA.

I agree to an extent.

Even though "achievements for playing badly" were probably concieved as a comical nod to players screwing up (similar to funny death animations in older games), once they are abused they have a negative impact on the experience. This is doubly so when it's a multiplayer game.

However it may be possible to have something similar with less potential for abuse, depending on the style of play the game demands.

For example, in a game like NSMB maybe it could be possible for the game to record each play-through of a level (video wouldn't need to be recorded, just position vs. time data or control input vs. time, so as not to require tons of bandwidth). Then at the end of a level you could have an in engine re-cap of entertaining moments, including demonstrations of skill and also amusing screw-ups. Players would be given the choice to save these moments and upload them to youtube, etc. Maybe even offer some minimal editing options like recutting scenes and adding captions to the videos to explain the setup and make funny comments (I know this can be done in youtube but having it in the game may encourage players to use it more).

What do you think? It's like the virtual equivalent of having a watercooler conversation about your gaming escapades.

edit: IIRC Nintendo even patented something like this, but the closest I've ever seen them use it in a game is with the superguide which is just a pre-recorded playthrough done by the devs..

Until you've played it, every game is a system seller!
