Depends. I wrote my first novel when I was 13 years old. When other students were doing their reading hour, I was on the computer slowly typing away, creating a novel loosely inspired by Dragonball Z (shuddap, I was 13).

I then went on to write a 12 novel series while I was in high school. I only made it to book 9, because after finishing book 8, there was a catastrophic event that had the two sites I was posting it on lose all their data at the same time I lost the memory card it was on. Losing 8 novels worth of material...it upset me greatly, so I stopped wtiting midway through book 9 and haven't returned to it since. sadly, it was loosely based on a book series I was reading at the time, so it wouldn't be worth my time to rewrite them (they were fanfiction).

ever since having that project crumble in my hands, I took some time off, but have since started planning another novel series - this time 100% original in a fantasy land I've created. I've been working on an encyclopedia and atlas to flesh out the world, as well as a 6-novel layout for the plot. I have hundreds of characters, dozens of locations, and a world map. I've even had a discussion about the planet's axial tilt and gravitational pull, just for the hell of it. I want this world to be awesome, and in addition to the 6 novel series (what's known as volume 1, there will be a volume 2 and 3, as well), I'm also doing an anthology of short stories and a complete novel/series explaining the religion and history of the world.

I also have another 3-book sci-fi series planned, but it's lower priority.
