Activision and MS already had a deal for CoD which inludes exclusives and advertising. MS would probably breach contract with Activision by making a deal with BF3 as they are direct competitors with CoD. So EA went to Sony and did a deal, as they saw the CoD MS deal as an opertunity to go for the PS3 community by offering them an exclusive.
