^Hey don't insult all of us 30+ on this forum. That's just as bad as someone insulting a 17yr old. And let's be honest Avatar wasn't a crapfest. It's just people like to hate on it now the way my generation liked to hate on Titanic when it came out, because those two films were aimed at the mass market, not us, and did so well. Avatar may not have had a great story, but it sure was a visual orgasm. Both Avengers and Avatar are the only two films I have watched twice in theater since LotR: The Two Towers.

But I do agree with your statement that advertising, or lets just say marketing, brings in the majority of revenue. You can not get huge word of mouth quickly without first having a large marketing campaign drawing in the first audience. (Great reviews are not enough) If Disney/Marvel had not spent so much on marketing Avengers, then it would not be breaking records right now, though it is possible it could do so in the long run.
