Simple they just want a slice of the used market, and they thought that combination of online passes and used games gets them that, when it actually ripoffs the consumer (because EB used prices are already a ripoff). 

Not joking or anything but can you or anyone please explain to me what online passes are? I havent gotten myself into that and would like to know what exactly I am getting (or will get myself into xd).

basically, when you buy a new game, there's a little pamphlet inside with a code that you need to put into your system's registry if you want to play that game online.  If you didn't buy it used, then that code is used up and you have to BUY that code online. usually 5 or 10 bucks to go online
