Before Wii U was shown (but already known) last year I was thinking they'd come up with a similar system calling them "milestones".
They said they don't want these in their games because it's up to the player to explore the full game and make up own challenges (I actually did that with every game I loved before this generation - collecting 100%, doing the full handicap/hardest difficulty win, funny things like exploring the map, getting to the highest spot etc.). I respect that. But they said they want to make their system open for developers, not like Microsoft controlling every step. I guess 3rd party games will have achievement-like awards that might be tied to your Wii U profile. But that's all. Maybe it's even just a publisher thing (Ubisoft already has their own weird rewards thing in games; don't know about others).
