That comments is almost as old as this generation. (It may be older.) But yes it is stupid, then again most extremist fanboy reasoning and retorts are.
This may be common knowledge for some but the word fan is a truncation (a shortening) of the word fanatic. It was meant to bring the idea of how obsesive they are.
