1) Because the current 3DS isn't perfect in several ways and people have learned to anticipate redesigns for handhelds. A redesign could fix the problems and thus motivate the people who are holding out to finally buy a 3DS. The more 3DS hardware that is sold, the more 3DS software will be sold. The real money in the video game business is in the software, hence why any concerns over small losses on hardware are secondary to the issue of not selling anything at all. 2) A redesign would be more than just a second Circle Pad and Nintendo could go as far as offering two versions of their redesign, the difference being the positions of the left Circle Pad and d-pad. Putting the d-pad into the more comfortable position would be greatly welcome by people who play mostly or exclusively 2D games on handhelds and such a design would go hand in hand with New Super Mario Bros. 2. 3) While Capcom was involved in the design of the CCP (because Monster Hunter is the biggest third party IP in Japan), the peripheral was ready to support more than just Capcom games upon its announcement last September. Capcom wasn't the only third party who asked for this peripheral, so your assessment is wrong. I doubt that Capcom gets any kind of royalties for each CCP sold, because they were already bribed with Nintendo money beforehand. And obviously, a redesigned 3DS is not going to hurt Monster Hunter sales. If anything, it's going to help them, because the CCP makes the 3DS really bulky and less convenient to use. |
I agree that your points are logical, but what is going to be Nintendo's decision do you think?
Nintendo has a forecast for the 3ds right? It's about double last year, right? The question is, will it be able to hit the mark without the redesign or not. Sales are increasing, so why redesign? Shouldn't that be saved for a rainy day?
Oh and no, CCP was leaked in a scan of Famitsu before its own announcement.
