Mario and CoD offer something that gow simply cant now...simplicity. From story to gameplay, CoD and mario are really easy game to get into without searching, playing or knowing anything about previous games, Mario gameplay is really simple too and its deep or complexity is in level design, CoD multiplayer brings  instant satisfaction making it feel rewarding to the bigger masses at their first expereience. GoW in story needs at least to know or have played the other 2 games to undestand the charatcer and in multiplayer i would guess it would get dull if they try to achieve what cod does.

Also im not sure those who like greek mythology want all the parthenon dead by someone like Kratos and Christianism would get them in trouble.

I picked up GoW 3 the other day and jumped in without a problem. I'm not sure you can really claim that. Sure there were some gameplay aspects I had to learn on my own but I just assumed that's how it was. It was when I then played GoW 1 that I realized there are mini popup guides at the beginning of the game.

I find GoW 3 easier to pick up and set up than CoD personally.

The game starts with gameplay, nothing in between.
