1) No, your initial point wasn't just about enhancing a game with a visual effect (because that could be said to be already done by Super Mario 3D Land), but making this visual effect an integral part of the game which has not been done yet.

2) I am not dismissing the idea based on nothing. The PSP already tried its luck with movies and the results were pitiful. 3D isn't going to change anything, because the interest for 3D movies has already cooled down considerably.

3) I don't think Animal Crossing really needs the touch screen, it certainly doesn't use the feature heavily.

And no, I don't think you have won this point. You have just tried to morph it into a different point to justify the 3D in the 3DS. My initial statement that games are more important than gimmicks isn't refuted by this list and it's likely (actually very probable) that the games that didn't use the touch screen heavily have more staying power than the ones that did. NSMB, Mario Kart, Pokémon, they are going to be the main drivers of Nintendo's handheld sales, gimmicks or not.

1. Not been done yet, and it's nobody's fault but Nintendo's that it hasn't been.

2. Comparing downloadable 3D films and physical UMD films which were overpriced and improperly marketed is not really a fair comparison.

3. Cherry-picking Animal Crossing doesn't negate my point and by the way "the games that didn't use the touch screen heavily have more staying power than the ones that did. NSMB, Mario Kart, Pokémon", what on earth are you basing that on, because it sure ain't sales? This list goes a lot of the way to proving that the inclusion of the DS's touch screen and focusing on providing excellent software that utilised it were absolutely integral to the DS's success. The fact that new IPs, such is Nintendogs, were able to go toe to toe with established Nintendo franchises like Mario in terms of sales, is evidence that the touch screen was hugely important to the machine's success. It simply would not have sold nearly as well without the inclusion of the touch screen.

Nobody ever stated that games were less important than gimmicks but that if a console's USP is successfully leveraged with the right software that utilises that USP in an attractive way, the console will be successful. 3D is no different in that regard.
