I think COD's release date was chosen to be 13th for a different reason altogether. If you check the calender the 13th is actually a total solar eclipse and BO2 was known as eclipse earlier on. Plus solar eclipse and moon travel was a recurring theme in the zombies storyline where Treyarch liked to include some insane puzzles for people to solve. With Zombies getting its biggest overhaul with its own new modes (storywise as well) I think it all blends in together.
