Nintendo lost money because they are poring MASSIVE ammounts of resources into development of new technology, all the while selling 3DS at a slight loss.  At this moment, 3DS is selling at a profit, Wii U will not sell at a loss unless Ninty has a TON of software ready to go.  I wouldn't worry about Ninty, they have massive cash reserves and will be fine unless Wii U becomes  the next Virtual Boy.
