First off, I completely respect your opinion no matter what I says comes up after typing (I'm a little on the tipsy side and don't know what will come from my fingers as follows).
I completely agree that the story and story and dialogue are fantastic and the system those are presented are just incredible. That said the presentation of the game is absolutely pathetic. I do think the character show enough emotion as you allow them to and every storywise and all that jazz is fantastic, it's just the gameplay and the presentation that is flawed in that game.
I agree that the base gameplay isn't good. Down at the basic level the enemies move too fast and you move too slow. The enemies so often rush towards in the horribly repeated arenas and it just isn't fun. On top of that, using powers or special abilities takes you completely out of the action. I'm not sure where you get the no auto aim idea because I could have swore that there was a setting that helped you aim. Maybe I'm just an idiot tonight.
As for strategy, I completely agree. You can use strategy but there's not much point. There's no reward for getting through an encounter elegantly and you can get through most encounters by just blindly firing.
