3DS -> 3DS is also possible.

I'm pretty confident that Wii -> Wii-U transfers will be equally possible. But it's been confirmed that purchases will still be tied to your system rather than some account, just like they are on the Wii, DSi, and 3DS.

I hadn't heard about this. I don't actually have a DSi, but this is heartening. I just remember that at launch, there was no way to transfer.

If they implement a similar process for the Wii, I'd consider that acceptable. Not as nice as other systems which allow multiple devices to use the same license, but it's good enough.
