It wasn't BS. It made all logical sense, especially considering Sony's big push into Android at that point with Xperia Play and the Playstation Suite and the OS views of Vita that showed a top bar that was/is identical to Android 2.3.
I still think Sony screwed the pooch. They should have taken Android, added specific security layers for gaming and they would of had a far better and more functional setup. Tons of immediate applications, solid browser, solid social system, etc. Forcing it to be Sony only is too limiting and now you have to wait for subpar apps that are behind the features on smartphone/tablets.
