I stand completely corrected! I was expecting 120-150k, and thought 200k was far too optimistic. And then it pulls of 242,000! Just to clarify, that's the second highest number Fire Emblem has ever pulled off first week, beaten only by Fire Emblem 3, if we are to trust VGChartz on this. I wouldn't put a lot of trust in the VGChartz Fire Emblem numbers, as they've time and again been completely off (such as Fire Emblem 6, which never released abroad, selling hundreds of thousands in Europe).

Going by Media Create numbers, it's the highest, but they have no data for FE3. There, FE4 is the highest at 228,000. It's probable FE3 was slightly higher, though, as it sold a lot more lifetime.

Either way, this means that Fire Emblem: Awakening sells more first week than Kid Icarus: Uprising has in a month. Additionally, it also means that it might exceed 500,000 in Japan alone, which is just amazing.

If it's released in the US, and it probably will be, there's every chance that it'll become the best selling Fire Emblem of all time. I sure didn't expect that!

Note: As for the "US vs Japan" sales for Fire Emblem, the past ones have sold roughly as much in Japan and USA. Trusting VGChartz on this is a bit iffy, but it and other sources point to the DS Fire Emblems selling more in Japan, while the GC and Wii ones sold more in USA. However, considering the size of the markets, Fire Emblem is a lot larger in Japan.

There are 50 million DSes in USA, and 32 million in Japan, so when they sell roughly the same, it really means it's more popular in Japan.
