So what about Kutaragi and Sony's decision as a whole? Surely they did expect to sell 150m+ consoles which were the original expectations. Hirai just reiterated those expectations in 2008. |
150 million consoles.... maybe, 150 million console in 6 years not a chance in hell they expected that
and Kutaragi's PS3 and the PS3 we actually got, where two drastically different beast
what they expected was the hardware investment to pay off in the future, that's something Kutaragi and Sony talked about WAY more than the console selling 150 million units. Something I've seen a lot but it never makes any sense, and you've heard this a lot "Sony can't AFFORD another PS3", My question is, why would they have to? why would they HAVE to spend the millions in RnD on Blu-Ray when because of the PS3 it's the dominate HD platform? why would they HAVE to spend the MILLIONS on the Cell processor when because of the PS3 has more than proven it's worth and is incredibly cheap to make now? EVERYTHING that made the PS3 such a cash black hole, TODAY would allow the PS4 to still be powerful yet cheap and affordable.
PS3 laid the road work not just for itself but for future consoles as well, that's a fact many people either forget, or flat out ignore.
anyway this is getting off topic, which I agree with BTW
