that's the main problem. nintendo, instead of focusing on graphics, decided to make local multiplayer games, 2d platformers, quality mario games, and casual games for their new demographic.
overall i think nintendo did a good job creating games for it's own system. it was the wii's weak third party support that really resulted in one) not likely being maxed out graphically two) being labeled king of casuals.
