Those are called Major franchises... add DQ and there you go, all the portable big boys are on 3DS - with some minor monsters following behind - like Animal Crossing or tomodachi collection or maybe (but I doubt) Brain Age 3. Final fantasy is the only exception, but it was never huge on portables, so I don't think FFXV or something like that will be on both 3DS or Vita. And if you're square what would you choose, 8 million or 1 million systems to sell. It's simple... any game can sell Vitas - Unit 13 pushed 18 vitas, remember? - but with what would you prefer to count on, those games "I know", or misterious major seller game? Just look at history, all winner systems had the majority of "big boys". This time 3DS seems to have them all! |
Was a new persona ever on Vita? How much did super robo sell on psp this week? Nearly 300k? Oh that's right.
It's like you're making the mistake that's smacking you in the face even as we speak. Look at wii with its 20 million sellers. And look at the two systems that are catching up to it. The games you're mentioning are like microcosms for the home consoles. MH=Call of duty, Mario = Mario, DQ = Wii Fit, Pokemon = wii sports, and what you're forgetting is that there's a ton of other games that sell really well and sell consoles but you are either blinded by the top sellers or perhaps blinded by something else.
There are a lot of games that are making their first appearance on a handheld with Vita, a lot of games with brand power. New hatsune miku, new super robo, new gundam, new persona, new vanillaware, and lots more (not all first appearances). I know the Japanese audience, I have Japanese friends who are on social networks talking about games all the time, I sometimes browse Japanese chan sites, I know what they like. Kingdom Hearts they want on Vita, not 3ds. MH they want on Vita, not 3ds, Idolmaster is actually the game everyone is waiting for, persona is hotly anticipated, everyone's talking about a secret Hideo game for Vita.
Anyway, you're right in saying that there is no argument without facts. And I can't provide you facts because I'm not an analyst. I'm simply someone who follows trends and popular things in japan. And here you have a list of historical sales, which someone has done all the work for you, and you say, sales will be exactly those levels and nothing more. Well, the burden is on me to prove to you that the natural increase in a popular products sequels increase. And I don't have time for that, I'll just prepare the crow, and you can chow down later.
