No, the PS3 can only read Blu-Ray discs. I don't think there are any proper player/burners on the market yet...well at a price under £1000.

Actually, now that I check, www.pricegrabber.com has Sony 50GB Blu-ray media at about $35 a pop.

A 500GB external Western Digital hard drive will cost me around $150 a pop!

Even if the PS3 was capable of burning, I'd still get a better deal buying the external hard drive. Oh, well.
