Seriously. I need to know what these games are all about. I know nothing about Pokemon. I never watched the cartoon. I have never played any of the games. I don't even know what genre they would fall under. However I am kind of inerested in grabbing a couple of the games if they really are that good. Anything that massively popular can't be all that bad....except Twilight...
So ya, what's he deal with Pokemon? Why are these games such a big deal? I always thought they were just for kids because I was already past the age where I watched caroons before Pokemon started airing in North America. It seems people of all ages enjoy the games, though...
Fill me in!

Unless you're 12 or under, don't watch the cartoon. Out of the entire franchise that is the only thing that is definetely for kids.
|
I don't get that. I'm 25 myself and I still watch the cartoon. Heck, me, my GF and a couple of my friends had a marathon watching the very first season last summer because of nostalgia and we still loved it. Yeah it may be a heavily kid focused cartoon, but that doesn't mean anyone else can't enjoy it.
|
I'd say its impossible to start watching the cartoon unless you're under 12 as you won't have the nostalgia feeling. The first series maybe, but after the Orange Islands and definetely once it reaches Hoenn it comes undone. I was over about 15/16 when Is topped watching it, mostly because the main characters had me facepalming for the entir 30 minutes.

I don't think the characters in the pokemon series are any more facepalm worthy than any of the popular cartoon/manga series such as Naruto or Dragonball. Yeah they're mostly idiotic in the grand majority of the episodes, but that's part of their charm. Having said that, I mostly watch the series for the battles, I always loved how different they make the anime rules from the game rules .
The Hoenn series was probably the worst of the bunch and Diamond/Pearl wasn't much better, but thankfully Best Wishes (the B/W one) has been as good as the first ones.
|
Never watched Naruto and was probably too young to notice when I watched Dragonball, but yeah you sum the characters and battles up perferectly, the tournaments and league competitions were usually the best episodes. Eventually they just had far too many filler episodes. The first series had between 50-60 episodes, whilst Diamond and Pearl spanned about 4 years so had 200+ episodes.

I agree with you on the filler part. Even Best Wishes has tons of filler episodes, although they have been more careful with them this time around, by giving them much more action and actual importance to the overall plot.
My favourite episodes will always be the gym battles ones, especially Claire's mostly because of the amount of insane things Ash usually pulls out to win the badges (usually after getting his ass handed down to him on the first try). Who can forget that in the very first gym battle Ash used Pikachu to take down Brock's Onix with a frigging thunderbolt
.
