They craft games that put gameplay first and are almost always incredibly polished and entertaining.

They've given us some legendary franchises over the years, particularly the Zelda and Mario series, and they're also pioneers for home gaming consoles in so many ways: Single handedly revitalized home gaming after the huge crash of the '80s, D-pad control, analogue control, rumble feedback, motion/pointer controls, touch screen controls, first handheld to accommodate multiple games (GB), first highly polished 2D platformer with secrets (SMB), first highly polished open-end game with multiple items (The Legend of Zelda), first mascot racing game (SMK), etc.

Many companies have made an impression in home gaming, but none like Nintendo have, IMHO.
