@Chark 3DS proved that no one is willing to pay more than $200 for a portable gaming device no matter how powerful the system may be. At it's current state, there are some who feel that the system alone cost too much and the fact you have to buy an accessory seprate from the system(memory cards), is unsettling to many. There is also competition for the system to face, like the 3DS and smartphones that are cheaper and provide either the same value(or more) at a more attractive price.
The games are there, but not enough to win people over. Sony is mainly trying to reach the hardcore to buy the Vita, but right now the game selection varies to spinoff of known game series, uninteresting third party games(depends on gamer, but to me uninteresting), and others that may be good(if not great) for awhile, but not in the long run. As soon as the list of games grow, more people will be willing to reach out to the system and will probably disregard the price as expensive. The PS3 and PSP had the same excat problems as the Vita when they launched.
