I'm pretty sure Patcher has early access to data of various stores and is basing his "analysis"(predictions) on that - not unsimilar to vgc - so that article hasn't lied imo, they just worded it misleadingly as many would assume the source was NPD, which it likely isn't as the result would be the same as Patcher's predictions (not going to happen ... ever)
