It cost the industry a trillion dollars to upgrade their hardware and software to enable HD recording, editing, storage and broadcasting.   Do you really think they are ready to spend another trillion or two to do that all over again already?

Do you think that the broadcast airwaves can even handle 2160p resolution?  Consider that the majority don't even operate in 1080p yet (720p or 1080i).
Cable?  Go look up their bandwidth increases since offering HD movies.   Now up that bandwidth by 4 and see if they are OK with that.  Worse still is that most are locked into a 19Mbps with MPEG-2 compression.   Good luck getting them to move up to AVC and 76 Mbps video feeds.

What movie medium will you get your 2160p movies on?  A 2160p capable movie format does not exist nor is one in  the works.

1 hour of uncompressed 1080p video requires about 559.87 GB's of storage.  1 hour of uncompressed 2160p video requires about 1.72 TB's of storage.
2 hour high bit rate Blu-ray movie is about 48 GB's.  That would make it about 180 GB's for 2160p.

Bluray technology can go beyond 50 gigabytes.

Blu-ray Discs contain 25 GB[ambiguous] per layer, with dual layer discs (50 GB) being the norm for feature-length video discs. Triple layer discs (100 GB) and quadruple layers (128 GB) are available for BD-XL re-writer drives.[2]

The major application of Blu-ray Discs is as a medium for video material such as feature films.

So you are telling me that a triple layer bluray disc can't run a 2160p movie, not to mention that 4x resolution doesn't necessary mean 4x more disc space.

and for games the possibilites are even more possible because games take up less space than video.

Like I have been saying start saving your pennies if you want to have all that eye candy.
