It was a great game. I played and finished it, will probably pick it up to play it again. I remember that their where quite a few reviewers who called the last boss hard. So I took my time and built up my characters. Got to the main boss, the only other main boss that I felt was as anti-climatic as that was Sephiroth, did the same thing built up the characters and materia that fight was over in less then six turns. (I did this because of FF6 getting to the final fight with Kefka and then having that fight wipe out all but Tera, Celes and Locke, and that fight you got to use all characters that you had recruited I even saved Shadow and had Gogo)
Back to LoD, so I decided to do the hardest boss in the game after that.... Beat that one pretty easily.
It might of been a good thing they canceled LoD2, judging by the other JRPG they had at the time Legend of Legaia, the second one of that was at its core was a retelling of the FIRST GAME that's it.
