Obviously the 40GB model is simply cheaper to produce. They have said that a 1 SKU solution is best. They are just trying to move as quickly as possible to a mass market priced console that they lose as little money as possible on.
If this mean no BC fine, but I am going to have a good hard laugh when they introduce full software BC support for the 40GB. Then everyone will be praising them.
I think that they will beat the 360 to $199. ( I do not count the arcade because that is a truely gimped sku).
Final* Word on Game Delays:
The game will not be any better or include more content then planned. Any commnets that say so are just PR hogwash to make you feel better for having to wait.
Delays are due to lack of proper resources, skill, or adequate planning by the developer.
Do be thankful that they have enough respect for you to delay the game and maintain its intended level of quality.
