From a "gamers" perspective I see it as a failure. From a "business perspective" it was gaming crack.
Nintendo knew they had to change the landscape in gaming if they wanted to compete. They effectively did that. However, the casuals started "growing up", Kinect pulled the attention away from the Wii and Nintendo's plans. PS Move did as well to a greatly smaller affect.
