If you look at major western developers this gen you can rank them in 3 categories :

1) Improved this gen :

- Activision

- Take Two

2) Stagnated :

- EA

3) Regressed :

- Ubisoft

- THQ

It's not as easy as my ranking make it seem though.

-  Activision is at risk as the fans are going to get tired of the yearly CoD at some point and they are overly dependent on CoD and have failed to push others franchises to the HD market. Their next best hope in my view will come from Blizzard again ( Diablo consoles ?).

- Take Two has made real progress and is becoming less of a one franchise publisher ( GTA). They have had some very good success that position them well for next gen ( NBA2K, Red Dead Redemption).

- EA started the gen very badly but is slowly recovering and they have made some inroads into casual gaming through facebook games.. Looking back, their Bioware acquisition seem now like a very good idea..

- Ubisoft started the gen very well with  Assassin Creed that impressed many people but since then things have been going down the drain. They haven't been unable to to cash on any other franchise in the HD market and their yearly AC releases haven't been as good as they make them look like ( AC is one of the heaviest discounted game every holyday, they are moving numbers but not necessary great revenue/profit). Their early Wii franchises ( Rabbids) fizzled too and lets face it, in a few years Just Dance will go the way of Guitar Hero... Ubisoft failed to carry forward their big PS2 franchises ( PoP, Splinter Cell..)

- THQ is ready to fall... They weren't in that great of a position when the gen started and they have no franchise to speak off...

PS3-Xbox360 gap : 1.5 millions and going up in PS3 favor !

PS3-Wii gap : 20 millions and going down !
