You must be new to the videogame industry... this sort of thing happens every time a new major console is announced or is about to be fully unveiled to the public. People were talking just as much about the "Revolution" (Wii's codename) back in '05-'06 with all kinds of speculation and rumors as to what exactly would be so revolutionary about it, and then of course once it was actually shown both the gaming and mainstream media went ape-shit over it.
The reason the Wii U is getting so much attention is that not only is it just a couple of months from being fully unveiled, but it will pretty much have the spotlight all to itself at E3 unless Sony or M$ decide to drop a megaton and tease their new consoles, which is highly unlikely at this point.
